From the Francs region, just to the east of Pusseguin-Saint-Emilion, Prelude is Chateau Marsau’s entry-level wine. Some “entry-level”! With almost six years in bottle, this is just now coming into its prime! The wine is completely unoaked, yet still possessed with fine tannins on a long finish. There’s a hint of spice from the use of whole bunches in fermentation, which adds intrigue to the dark black fruit. Plums, blackberries and more are all hanging out in this succulent wine.

With the fun and festive label, this makes a great gift for any wine lover.

Food pairing: Lamb shank ragu, braised short-ribs, a lentil stew with kale and root vegetables.

James Suckling: 92 Points

“Very neatly ripe black fruit with redder nuances and plenty of plums. The palate has a succulent, fleshy and attractive, redder-plum core with nuances of spice at the finish. Seamless, pure fruit here. Second wine of Château Marsau. The deep clay has kept this pure merlot fresh in the warmer vintage.” JS
